G.E. Water Heaters Selecting a Water Heater

When it comes to replacing your current water heater or buying a water heater for a brand-new home, there are some things every homeowner is advised to consider. This shouldn’t be a superficial decision, rather it is highly recommended that you are informed and advised about which water heater to purchase. The last thing you want is to perceive a difficulty with your new water heater a few months down the road that could’ve been avoided with a little more information.

G.E. Water Heaters and Repairs

The three primary things to consider when shopping for a new water heater or replacement are:

  • Current water heater energy type (natural gas, electric, or liquid propane)
  • Gallon capacity needed (common is 40 or 50 gallons, but it can range higher for greater needs)
  • Dimensions (height and width; short, medium, or tall)

G.E: Good, Better, Best Versions

When it comes to G.E. water heaters, there a few differences you need to be aware of as well. Under the traditional type of water heater are three different categories of G.E. water heaters: good, better, and best.

Good – This types is economical, and grants a six-year warranty
Better – This type grants higher BTUs, and provides a nine-year warranty
Best – This type is self-cleaning, has the highest BTUs, and comes with a twelve-year warranty

Energy Star

A lot of G.E. water heaters are Energy Star certified which means you may be able to save money on your utility bills through federal or state utility rebate programs. These water heaters also protect the environment by saving energy.

GeoSpring Hybrid Water Heaters

There is a newer type of water heater that G.E. produces which is called the Geospring Hybrid Electric Water Heater. Hybrid water heaters are becoming more common because of their energy efficiency and savings they accrue for homeowners through reducing energy bills. It is estimated that 20-30% of energy bill is apportioned to heating your water. Because water heaters are such high energy users, there have been improvements to efficiency and design that G.E. has mastered to provide better performance for homeowners.

One thing to keep in mind, however, when considering a GeoSpring hybrid water heater is that they are a bit larger in size than conventional water heaters. This means you’ll need more space to fit it into. If your current water heater is smaller in size and already in a tight squeeze, you’ll want to speak to your plumber about options.
